Headline: Preservation of the Navajo Zoological and Botanical Park

With initiatives to preserve the Navajo Zoological and Botanical Park, the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department are promoting their latest concept: “Adopt an Animal.”

The Adopt an Animal Program allows adoption of an animal, which will help defray the cost of feeding and caring for more than 85 wildlife and animals (bears, elk, wolves, and deer). Adopting an animal is easy, call the contact number and get an application to complete, choose the animal you wish to adopt, and then start fundraising. When you sign up you will receive a picture and pertinent information, i.e. Vital statistics of the animal. You will also receive a Personalized Certificate of Sponsorship, free admission for your group, and your name will appear on the “Adopt an Animal” showcase board.

The Navajo Nation Zoo is the only tribally owned and operated Zoo in the United States. You will be contributing to the success of one of the Navajo Nation most important cultural, educational, and environmental institutions. The Navajo Parks and Recreation Department asks for your assistance in making this fundraiser a success. It is sincerely believed that this endeavor is in the best interest of the community, Navajo Nation, the Navajo Zoological and Botanical Park, and all the animals that live at the Zoo.

If you wish to donate the Department will be accepting Money Orders, Cashiers Checks, and Personal Checks written out to the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department and specify on the payment: Navajo Zoological and Botanical Park. Donations can be mailed to the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department PO Box 2520, Window Rock, AZ 86515, and a one-year pass will be mailed back to your attention. Or you may visit the Navajo Parks and Recreation Office just north of the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock, Arizona.

    A New "Helping Hand"
    Ron Hogfoss, Hogan Restaurant

    Quality Inn Navajo Nation
Director of Food & Beverage –
    Mr. Ron Hogfoss

Originally from North Dakota, Mr. Hogfoss knew his ambitions of becoming a great Chef would soon be his passion in life. Having worked for the Kahler Corporation for more than 42 years, Mr. Hogfoss embellishes on his moments of searing and braising up a storm.

“Back in Moorhead, Minnesota I started work for the Kahler Corporation in 1957, as a fry cook” stated Mr. Hogfoss. He then moved on throughout the years to become a Sous Chef for the hotel. Because of his noted expertise in the area of food & beverage, he was asked to open two more hotels for the distinguish company. One of the two he opened, he worked as the Executive Chef for 15 years. Clearly Mr. Hogfoss had a determination and dedication that the Kahler Corporation admired. After 9 years of working at the “mother house” (he was referring to the larger hotel of the chain) in Rochester, Minnesota he went on to be one of the much- needed “troubleshooters” for the company.

In 1978 he embarked on a career journey, which would lead him to new locations throughout the United States like Utah, West Virginia, Texas, Florida & Minnesota. This was the era that Mr. Hogfoss was introduced to another fellow employee; Mr. Don Madden. Both gentlemen were skilled in the process of troubleshooting, and that is what they had become to be known as; Troubleshooters. They would both travel to various destinations and provide valuable assistance to properties in need of structure and balance. It was this introduction and friendly partnership that would prove to be great interview process in the future.

Mr. Hogfoss has also had the honor to serve distinguish dignitaries like the President of India and the President of the United States. During which he prepped their meals for official airline flights. He says, “It was an experience I will not forget”

Mr. Ron Hogfoss is also no stranger to culinary competition. He says this to start, “give me any competition.” He has been known to compete in some of the most grueling and intense cooking competitions in the nation. Much like the renowned television show, Iron Chefs, Ron has had the honor of winning national cooking prizes for his delicious creations. He was a member of the American Culinary Arts Confederation and is known to most as a Grand Master. Quite the resume he has, and the Navajo Nation Hospitality Enterprise is pleased to have him.

Some of his newest ideas are to bring the tantalizing diversity of food to the Navajo Nation and to lead as a customer service driven restaurant. He recognizes the small quiet town charm of Tuba City and appreciates the welcome he has gotten from the community. Few people know that Ron was planning on retiring in the Grand Canyon State before his acceptance of the position. So he is enjoying his first experience living on the Navajo Nation. His customer service motto is: “As soon as they walk in, treat them as if they were at home.” He enjoys getting to know his guests.

The Navajo Nation Hospitality Enterprise would like to extend another warm sincere Welcome to Mr. Ron Hogfoss and wish him happiness and success.
